Karlstadsbuss Installs Infotainment System from Geosignage

This July, Karlstadsbuss will get 59 new buses with infotainment systems from the Ideon company Geosignage, making the trip feel shorter, and providing passengers with real-time information and entertainment, in the right time and place. The TV4-Group is responsible for news, sports, weather and advertising sales.

With Geosignage system, it is possible to trigger information based on specific areas, lines or places. Karlstadsbuss will, for example, be able to show historic images of places that the bus is passing by, or show tourists what beautiful beaches are hiding behind certain stops.

In addition to entertainment, Geosignage system will also show current information about connections, and enable distribution of disruption messages in real-time.

Karlstadsbuss is the public transport authority in Sweden with the highest satisfaction among the public, and has increased the number of passengers since 2005 by 59%. A long-term cooperation with Geosignage is part of continuing that positive development.

We have been looking for this for a long time, but it was not until Geosignage came to us that we found a solution we actually wanted to use,” says Sören Bergerland, head of Karlstadsbuss. “Together with our customers we want to create added value during the trip. Hopefully, the people of Karlstad, through their participation, will be able to contribute to an interesting and useful news, information and entertainment channel.

The TV4-Group, which includes Sweden’s largest commercial TV-channel TV4, provides news, sports, weather and advertising sales. Since before, the TV4-Group is present on airports, trains and in waiting rooms, through the business area TV4 Out of Home. The cooperation with Karlstadsbuss will be the first channel on buses.

Robert Danowsky, head of TV4 Out of Home, says “The cooperation with Karlstadsbuss is completely in line with our ambition to grow within public transport and, as far as I know, it is also the first establishment on buses in Sweden. We are really looking forward to developing a channel together with Karlstadsbuss and Geosignage, which is appreciated by both advertisers and viewers.

Displays are about to become standard in public transport and Geosignage has contact with other potential customers and partners, both in Sweden and abroad. The goal is to help more transport and media companies inform and entertain their passengers.

Johan Posse, CEO of Geosignage Sverige AB, says: “We are proud to have Karlstadsbuss and TV4 as partners. Together we are creating Sweden’s most modern infotainment system, which will become a model both nationally and internationally.

GeoSignage won the Student Prize in Venture Cup South

GeoSignage won the Student Prize, worth 28 800 SEK, at the regional final in the business plan competition Venture Cup.

The Jury’s motivation (freely translated from the Swedish original): ”The Leapfrog cheque goes to a company that the jury considers to have big potential to develop and establish itself on a growing market. Mobility and geo-positioning is a current theme and with this company’s technology and service, the public transport and mobile vehicles can easier update and target the right services to the right audience in the right time.

The business idea fulfils Leapfrogs’ criteria for long-term growth potential and novelty and there is a strong entrepreneurial drive behind the case.

The Leapfrog cheque can hopefully help establish the service a little faster on the market.”
